Terrace Bar Luz

This outdoor commercial project focused on transforming a large, underutilized terrace into a vibrant, functional bar and social destination.

Originally, the space felt exposed, disconnected, and lacked a clear identity. While the terrace had incredible potential — with expansive square footage and views overlooking the padel courts — it was filled with mismatched furniture, minimal shade, and no defined zones for guests to gather, relax, or engage with the space.

The design approach centered on creating a cohesive, hospitality-driven environment that maximized both usability and atmosphere.

A custom-built bar structure was introduced as the anchor of the space, clad in warm wood slats to add texture, depth, and a strong architectural presence. The bar was designed not only for aesthetics but for operational efficiency — providing ample workspace, integrated storage, and a clear focal point for service.

To address the harsh sun exposure, layered shading solutions were implemented using pergola structures and stretched sail shades. This allowed for comfortable, all-day use while also creating visual interest and dimension overhead.

The terrace was then thoughtfully zoned to support different guest experiences. Communal dining tables, casual café-style seating, and relaxed lounge areas were introduced to encourage a variety of uses — from quick drinks to longer, social gatherings.

Materiality played a key role in achieving the overall coastal-modern aesthetic. Natural woods, woven textures, and soft neutral tones were paired with greenery and terracotta elements to create warmth and a strong connection to the Algarve setting.

Lighting and styling details — including pendant fixtures, bar shelving, and layered décor — further enhanced the atmosphere, transitioning the space seamlessly from day to evening use.

The result is a dynamic and inviting terrace that feels both elevated and approachable — transforming an empty rooftop into a destination that enhances the overall experience of the venue.
